midwest - new england dictionary

thousand island dressing = russian dressing

garage sale = tag sale

cart = carriage

purse = pocket book

bun = hard roll

pop = I don't know, but I am sure it's not pop

"ant" (your parent's sister) = "ah-nt"

the kids find the last one especially funny. today I was telling a kid a story about an imaginary character who had to go live with his "aunt donna," and he started cracking up and said, "he went to live with a bug?"

the idiots down the street who have had an easter flag flying since june finally seem slightly less stupid. I mean, who has an easter flag, really? I get quite mad at people who decorate for the seasons and then, months later, have made no move to remove the decorations. there are still several christmas wreaths in the neighborhood. it's damn infuriating. if you have the time and inclination to hang crap on your house, you should also have time and inclination to take that stuff DOWN.

Comments:
In Bridgeport (not CT), they will decorate windows for St. Pat's day and Valentine's Day. It's a Catholic thing, or something.
